Learn more about the big, bold climate action we need Congress to take NOW
As scorching heat waves break records and take lives across the US, and as Americans prepare for another ugly climate-fueled disaster season of wildfires, hurricanes and drought, we need President Biden and Congress to meet this moment with bold action for climate, jobs, and justice. Our challenge is very clear: to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, the global community must cut greenhouse gas pollution in half by 2030, and eliminate carbon pollution by mid-century. President Biden, House Speaker Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Schumer have committed to advancing bold climate action.
Now, it's up to us to make sure our leaders deliver.
FAQs
Does calling my members of Congress really matter?
YES! Congresspeople use the number of calls they receive for or against a particular topic to decide what to focus on, and what to fight for. They count each call, so please call to make sure that YOU are counted!
Should I call even if my Senators are Democrats?
YES! Democrats need to show their commitment to the ambitious climate action that we need right now. Calling them will encourage them to fight harder and provide the support they need if they represent purple states.
Should I call even if my Senators are Republicans?
YES! Republicans urgently need to know that their constituents care. There are a growing number of Republicans who recognize that we must act on climate. Hearing from voters gives them the support they need to act. And for those Republicans who do not support climate action, they will hear that the voters do care.
Why is this important now?
June 2021 was the hottest month ever recorded in America. Climate change is overwhelming our nation’s infrastructure. Let’s flood our lawmakers in Washington, D.C. with calls so they know their constituents care and want them to act.
But isn’t it too late?
NO! With the recent release in early August of a major new scientific report from the UN, there is no longer any doubt about the unavoidable impact of our changing climate. According to the report, this summer’s climate fueled heat, fires, drought and flooding are only a preview of the years ahead. No part of the planet will be spared. However, we believe the report’s most important finding is that we still have a small window of opportunity to act to stop things from getting even worse. But that window is closing which is why we must act now! As Laurence Tubiana, an architect of the Paris Agreement said this week in response to the UN IPCC Report: 'Scientists did their job, it is time for leaders to do theirs.'
I called after hours and couldn’t leave a message. Any advice?
Some offices have after hours phone menus that make it difficult for our automated call system to work. If you’re unable to leave a message, just call back during work hours (9 AM - 5:30 PM Eastern).
I’ve called already, now what should I do?
Share this website with three of your friends and ask them to call, too! And you can also call again—calling once a week will show your Senators that you are paying attention.
What is #Call4ClimateNOW?
This initiative was begun by a collaboration of companies in the natural products industry and spread to businesses across the U.S. We know that the people who buy our products care a LOT about climate change. They also have told us that they don’t know what they can do to help address the crisis. Climate change feels big and overwhelming. Working with our partners at Fossil Free Media, we decided to create an easy and impactful way for everyone in the country to take action by calling their elected officials to ask them to take bold action that matches the scale of the crisis. This is a critical moment and every call counts!
